About the ASE diagnostic quiz

Which ASE test should I take first?
Most working technicians start with A1 (Engine Repair), A4 (Steering & Suspension), or A5 (Brakes) — the highest-volume tests in a general repair bay. Apprentices and lube techs usually start with G1 (Maintenance & Light Repair). Our diagnostic weighs your role, experience, and daily work to pick the fastest path.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no email, no credit card. You get your recommendation instantly. Study material for the actual test is available on our paid plans.
How many ASE certifications exist?
24 tests across five series: Automobile (A1–A9), Medium/Heavy Truck (T1–T8), Collision Repair (B2–B6), Service Consultant (C1), and Maintenance & Light Repair (G1), plus L1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist.
How long does ASE prep take?
Most techs pass with 4–6 weeks of consistent study — about 20–30 minutes a day using spaced-repetition flashcards and practice questions. Techs with 2+ years of hands-on experience often pass faster.
