Confirm the module is even the problem
ABS modules get blamed for wheel speed sensor codes, tone ring damage, wiring chafe, and low system voltage every single day. Before you quote a replacement, verify the module is receiving clean power and ground under load. A voltage drop across the module ground of more than 100 millivolts with the pump commanded on is enough to trigger internal faults that look exactly like a bad module.
The bidirectional test you should always run
Almost every capable scan tool can command individual ABS solenoids and the pump motor. If the module responds to bidirectional commands, moves the correct solenoid, and reports realistic feedback, the module is fine. If it refuses to actuate or reports the command failed, you have real evidence to justify replacement.
When replacement is unavoidable
Some modules require programming to the VIN and a bleed procedure that cycles the internal valves. Skipping the bleed leaves trapped air in a chamber that the pedal cannot reach, and the customer comes back with a soft pedal you cannot explain. Follow the service information exactly, every time.
